I absolutely had to take advantage of the buildings' zig-zag nature. At 4 feet wide, the individual sections would appear too "busy" if they each contained a separate design or image.

A unified design across 8 sections would remedy this problem as well as create a completely unique mural viewing experience.

Flowers on the painted face of the wall were provided by Mike Smash and Johnny Buss.

This wall uses colors from both Trend Vitreo and L'opio tile palettes. My Mural Corps Summer class was on hand to help fabricate the mural inside the center.

After each section was completed indoors by one half of the group, the rest assembled to install and grout the work.

 Grout Progress

Before the tile was installed, a thin coat of Flexbond was needed to eliminate the mortar lines in the brick. One we had a flat surface to work on, installation was quick and painless.

I used a fast drying cement, which enabled us to grout in the same day. A must during the unpredictable stormy weather during that month of the summer.

The sections of tile even manage to work well up close as a piece of the overall image.

The theme of the mural project is the importance of a "family", and the strength and support one provides.

The mural highlights many social and child-care services provided by NorthEast Treatment Center. These services provide an individual with a sense of family, be it through adoption, or group therapy.
